Which diesel price applies to each month?

We use the official weekly gross average diesel price published by the BGL as our reference. For each month, we take the four weekly values and calculate the monthly average based on these four figures.
The applicable value is always the one from the third preceding month. This ensures that you know the upcoming value well in advance and can incorporate it into both your calculations and ours.

Explained Transparently and Fairly

With our new Truck Long-Haul and Truck for Barge/Rail tariffs, effective from 1 July 2026, we will no longer calculate the diesel surcharge as a percentage surcharge on the freight rate. Instead, it will be calculated on a consumption-based per-kilometre basis.

This means that you pay exactly for the additional fuel costs incurred by our vehicles – no more and no less.

 

The Formula

Two simple factors explain the formula:

  • €2.00 per litre (gross) is our fixed diesel base price included in the tariff.
    If the actual diesel price (the BGL’s weekly average gross diesel price) is above this level, a surcharge per kilometre driven will be applied. If it is below this level, you will receive a discount per kilometre.
  • 0.30 l/km represents a realistic average fuel consumption for a container semi-trailer truck (30 litres per 100 kilometres).
